There are a lot of things ways to describe Taiwan. As a nation who dealt with a lot of trauma from both her family and other people, she isn't one who typically thinks about the past but tries to move forward. After all, what's the point in thinking all these bad things when you can simply look on the brighter side of things! Just like she said "The Taiwanese don't believe in bad luck!" and you can't spell optimism without Taiwan on it!
One of first things to know about Taiwan is how open she is compared to a lot of family members. When compared to Japan, Vietnam, and sometimes China, she is usually the first to greet people with ease. If most of her family is quiet, then obviously there needs to someone who needs to break up the tension in the air! This was also the same girl who had no problem simply telling Macau and Vietnam that they wasn't old, they should have some confidence! With a friendly smile and cheerful outlook on life, she made sure that there wasn't anyone in the room that would feel left out. She would go out of her way to help someone should they need it. This was true when she gave Japan a tour and showed him everything that she had to offer. Even when Italy had some problems with finding out which souvenir store to go to, she openly said that he shouldn't go there! (You don't want to get trampled over by China!) While Taiwan can be an open girl, she is also someone who just wants to have some fun with her life. Even when she told Vietnam that there was a serious meeting, she just simply stated that she wanted a meeting where people could guess which voice actors were which in what anime! What better way than to make a meeting more than than to have some trivia along the way?
On top of being so open, she's also one to view the world as half-full. As stated in her character song, she worries a lot but would much rather keep moving forward. This was the same young nation who was managed thrive despite turmoil that went through in her life and it shows. Being part of the Four Asian Tigers, she is one of the most modern nations in the eastern hemisphere. Everything is booming and it shows with her being so friendly toward others. Often trying to befriend as many people as she could, she never one to say a negative things to others (unless you're China). She commented about how great Hungary's hot springs were, she said how Vietnam was adorable, and so on. This is also proven by how she dresses herself as well. Between dressing up as much as she can on Halloween and with the creator stating how much of a fashion she is? There is not a day where she goes off looking something unfashionable. With that said, she can be shallow because she focuses mostly on her appearance and others. However, even though she can be mean, she does mean well and wants the best for people. While she does jump to conclusions, she is more than welcome to accept people (unless said otherwise). Sadly, this could make her a bit naive and trusting sometimes.
Just like any other teenage girl, Taiwan tries to make herself noticeable. Always on to keep her appearances, Taiwan is never one to be without wearing the latest fashion or looking up whatever is the newest anime online. She is also one to make her own outfits and make sure she looks good in them no matter what. Despite being one of the more friendly Asian countries, she does try to be polite and well mannered. She knows when to act causal and when to act formal. With that said, she is also very self conscious about the way she looks as well. Between other European countries, she does realize that she looked rather plain compared to them.
However, it should be noted that while Taiwan is honest, it doesn't mean that it isn't all good. Just like any other normal teenage girl, it doesn't take much to anger her. This was the same girl who bluntly told China to just leave Japan alone with no hesitation ("Hey you bastard, leave Japan alone!") and managed to hold her own against many different countries that came her way. China, Japan and even Netherlands had known how strong the island nation could be and dare not to face her wrath should they know better. Even when she told Hong Kong to wish for something else other than money, he was surprised at how she kept insist she was. That doesn't mean Taiwan isn't traditional, she's not as strict about it like her older brothers. Family is always the center of attention compared to everything else. She is willing to make great sacrifices for her family no matter what. If anyone dares to mock anyone one of them, she will make them pay. There is a limit she can take and if someone were to say anything mean about them, she will give her opinion about it even if that person might be a family member themselves. While she might tease China all the time, that still does care about him. When China got sick during a Halloween Event, Taiwan simply looked away and gave him medicine to make him feel better.
In a lot of ways, she could be pushy as well. This was the same girl who managed to keep roping Vietnam to cosplay with her whenever they get the chance. While Vietnam told her that it made her uncomfortable, she simply said that it would be fun either way! It wouldn't be fun to just do everything by yourself! And couldn't she just watch anime instead of studying? Wouldn't that be much more fun?
In short, Taiwan is a girl who is cheerful girl and doesn't like to see people to worry about her. While she may looks frail, she can be a feisty person if you piss her off. Yes, she's probably use to getting what she wants and a bit nosy, but she wants to live life however it may come to her.
