History of Taiwan

-1000 Chinese settlements are present in Southern Taiwan
1350 Mongol Dynasty ruling China sends a mission to the Pescadores, where a base is established
1622 Dutch forces capture the Pescadores and build a base. It was for trade between Japan and China.
1624 The Dutch agreed with Chinese government to give back their base in favor of settlement.
1626 Spanish forces seize Keelung and from there expand to control nothern Taiwan
1628 Japanese settlers leave Taiwan under the orders from the Tokugawa Shogunate
1636, Lamey Island Massacre. The Dutch massacred the people of Lamey Island to get back at the murder of shipwrecked Dutch sailors in 1622 and 1631.
1636-1652, Chinese immigration!
1642 Dutch capture Spanish settlement and therefore, controlling the island
1652, Guo Huaiyi Rebellion
1662 Cheng Chu'eng-kung defeats Dutch forces, marking the end of the Dutch rule and the beginning of the "Cheng Dynasty" in Taiwan
1683 Cheng family rule of Taiwan ends; China government of Taiwan under the Manchu Dynasty beings
1786 There is a major rebellion in Taiwan against Chinese rule
1860 Several ports in Taiwan open to western trade
1874 Japanese expedition is sent to Taiwan in response to aborigines killing Japanese sailors and for colonization.
1884 Liu Ming-Chaun becomes governor of Taiwan, French navel vessels attack port of Keelung
1867 American military expedition sent for the Rover incident
1887 Taiwan is made a province of China
1895 Treaty of Shimonoseki, Taiwan was given to Japan. There was an unsuccessful attempt to form Republic of Formosa as a way of defense. ...It only lasted 10 days.
1903, Hydroelectric generators were made. First Asian place to use electricity outside of Japan. \o
1910 Foot-binding outlawed.
1915 Ta-pa-ni Incident
1924 Lin Hsien-tang presents 12 point grievances to Japanese colonial government
1930s, Produced 2x the amount of rice they needed under Japan's rule
1938 Chiang Kai-shek announces his intention to take Taiwan back from Japan
1941 Taiwan serves as a base for Japanese forces that attack the Philippines
1945 25 October Taiwan becomes part of the Republic of China as a result of Japan defeat in WWII
1947 28 Feb A major rebellion breaks out against the rule of Nationalist Chinese rule.
1949 The government of the Republic of China moves to Taiwan after is defeat on the mainland. Martial Law begins.
1950 US present Harry Truman sends the 7th fleet to the Taiwan strait, blocking a planned invasion of Taiwan by Mao. Aid is resumed in Taiwan. Taiwan breaks ties with England after establishing relations with China.
1951 Allied nations sign a peace treaty with Japan. China is not present
1952 A peace treaty is signed between the Republic of China and Japan.
1954 Communist forces launch an artillery bombardment on Taiwan! America gives a Republic of China Defense Treaty to help!
1955 The northernmost island Taiwan falls to China! US Congress passes the Formosa Resolution authorizing the president to use American forces to defend Taiwan
1959 Taiwan receives missiles from America
1963 Ambassador to the US Tsiang-Ting Fu signs the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
1964 Treaty of Amity was signed with South Korea
1971 Taiwan was “expelled” from the UN and China was given the seat instead.
1972, America “does not challenge” China's position that Taiwan is a part of China. Japan breaks ties with Taiwan.
1979, America breaks its ties with Taiwan but treats Taiwan as a sovereign nation-state.
1980, America terminated Taiwan the Republic of China Defense Treaty BUT resume arms sales anyway
1981, Government announces its planning to manufacture tanks, ships, and other weapons.
1982, America sign an agreement to China to decrease and end weapon sales to Taiwan. WTF AMERICA?
1985, Transoceanic telecommunications cable linking to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore is finished
1987, Martial law ends
1988-89, Taiwan relations with China is sllooowwwwlllllllllyyyyyyy improving.
1991, Taiwan terminates the 'state of war' with China
1992, It is no longer a crime to talk about Communism or Taiwan's independence. South Korea breaks its ties and America comes to visit...after 13 years :|
1993, A writer writes a paper named no There is no Taiwan Question: There is only a China question in response to The Taiwan question and the reunification of China
1994, America announces that the Taiwan representative office in America can change it's name to Taipei Economist and Cultural Representative office. Taiwan also got rejected by the United Nations when it applied for its membership
1995, Taiwan's president goes to America to talk about his election. He won the people's hearts and China was not amused. He decides to start firing missiles into the Taiwan Strait!
1996, Eight straight days of China of missile testing into the strait. To do something about this, Taiwan made sure that the Tiaoyutai islands was under their control no matter what.
1997, 2-28 is now a national holiday in Taiwan. America also allows Taiwan to run their own missile testing.
1998, Bill Clinton remains neutral and will not see Taiwan as independent. The Taiwan's stock exchange falls to a 10 year low! Not to mention...direct face to face contact with China in 5 decades!
1999, China's missile threat forces Taiwan to upgrade its defense. And Japan visits too
2000, America passes the Taiwan Security Enhancement Act. China threats if Taiwan refuses unification within a certain amount of time, there will be military force against the island.
2002, China signed a free trade agreement of Southeast Asian nations. Taiwan was not included.
2003, SARS!
2004, Premier Yu pretty much said If China fires missiles at us, we'll just fire back. It would be just like the cold war! Citizens were not happy.
2005, Thousands rally in protest against China's Anti-Succession Law stating that China will use military force against Taiwan if it declares independence. And China asked Russia for help. Fun.
2006, Nationalist Party warn President Chen to stop the “power struggle” and work for the people.
2009 8 Aug, Typhoon Morakot hits Taiwan and flooding 2/3 of the nation.
2010, America is selling arms to Taiwan.
2011 17 Mar, On a flight from Japan to Taiwan...someone had 4x the radiation compared to everyone else. Luckily washing some clothes will help.
